For BROKEN.HEART.COLLECTOR five champions of undefined paths join forces, having found what was meant to be found – each other:

Slovenian vocal artist and bass flutist Maja Osojnik, well versed in traditional Slovenian folk songs, pop & avantgarde, as well as black metal grunting, performs in various different outfits (Rdeca Raketa, Maja Osojnik Band, FruFru, Subshrubs); Bass clarinetist Susanna Gartmayer known from the manifold domestic improvisation scene; and there is also Bulbul – the Austrian superband, for years utilizing the classic rock line-up and pushing it beyond its boundaries, releasing conceptual field-recordings and blowing up the most profound pig-rock-smasher in the spheres of the impossible.

“Broken.Heart.Collector” is an intoxicating stream of lava, guides along The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, unnoticably passing owls whistling ‘good-night’s’ and wobbling shadowrealms dragging into disco beats. Suddenly you are on an overwhelming trip in the desert with Alejandro Jodorowsky, gliding through agravic spaces and oversized soundscapes
above which rattling chains and twittering iron can be heard. There’s squeaking and rattling until steel string guitar, driving bass, tricky drums and a hell of a clarinet trim it all into bruitistic layers finally mutating into an undertow-like groove.

BROKEN.HEART.COLLECTOR take your hand into unknown territory where you’ll meet pulsating heart-shaped jelly-puddings, drifting speaking pyramids, slowly rotating satellites, light beam transmissions from far dimensions and tongue in cheek grinning organists whos’ cylinders have eyes blinking mechanically through the bizarre orbit.

Two tip-toe sounds from afar in the dark, where everything springs to life, into light and day… whilst smashing buckets, beeping mouths.

It’s been a while now for SchnAAk to evolve from furry factory noise sessions of songs they smashed in the faces of bewildered people for one year solid while releasing two acclaimed EP’s. Initially they rubbed faces in persistence that said “Get used to it!”

After several excursions through Europe, Africa and the United States SchnAAk has lived up and loves weird hip-hop beats, parallel comic-art universes and stylish African rhythms, though still working deep down in a factory of cosmic noise, but adjusting their machines nicely to sing along. You’ve heard right: Sing along! Wake up Colossus!

The bucket has been proper band member since the first day, comfortably embedded amongst the two. The two with the four arms: two that stroke the wire, the other holding the wood. They make fire from amplifiers. They know how to do that, because they are smart… and they cook human flesh over it, nicely. It’s just two guys from Berlin who are connecting this gathering of frequencies and toys with impressive musicality – heartfelt musicality that never slips over the song itself or the naive joy of this music.

On Wake up Colossus remodeled instruments and weird sounds blend together in superorganic new pop music with focus on songwriting, way-out grooves and odd hooks. If we were to invent genres we might call this “transcendentally fertilized new machinery pop”. Gabbling guitar sounds and infantile voice rapidly transforms into a humming train
squeaking all along its tracks. Spot on percussion articulated on buckets, various metal pieces, plastic clappers, xylophones, congas, bells as well as ‘regular drums’. They perfectly groove on, off, lean, bearing with the estranged guitar and the buttons connected to it. SchnAAk walk in new territory and they make it completely their own.

Here in this bizarre world of Wake up Colossus the experimental development that happens in contemporary electronic and instrumental music, folds together embedding infantile sounds, modern composition, electronica, soul, avantrock and odd R’n’B…

Both grey-haired new music fetishists and their three year old kids may dance together and sing along to SchnAAk’s Wake up Colossus.

A traveling circus from Barcelona. Two guys and a dozen instruments.

ZA! are: PAPA DUPAU (guitar, trumpet, kalimba, perc, voc) and SPAZZFRICA EHD (dr, perc, keys, fx, clarinet, voc)

This multilayer supersonic-orchestra combines African beats, noise, math rock, vocal-loops, free jazz, analogue electronics, sounds from the shepherds of Tuva, Balinese polyrhythms, Mauritanian trip hop, Dadaism, distortion, dance and drones – “POST WORLDMUSIC” may be the name of this danceable hybrid.

ZA! – that means countless shows on the highest energetic level, including international festivals (SXSW, Primavera Sound, Sonar Festival), art performances, tours in UK, USA, Spain, Portugal and Germany. They played with noisebands (Lightning Bolt, ZU, Yellow Swans), rockbands (El Guincho, Delorean, Agent Robbons, Mark Eitzel) or freejazz artists (Peter Brötzmann, Paal Nilssen Love), because they love sharing stages with other musicians and creating new music altogether. PAPA DUPAU and SPAZZFRICA EHD have performed improvised and unique shows along with DAMO SUZUKI (Can), Angel Deradoorian (DIRTY PROJECTORS), Les Aus or Nisei. When the audience didn’t stare stunned at the stage or had their faces clenched in joy, they just danced. Live the ZA!-protagonists are connected through their music, they become one body. The physical is neither surface nor underground – it is scope, structure and instrument. A perfect balance between control of gestures and uncontrolled emotions.

The two Catalans have released two albums so far – their last genre blending record “Macumba o Muerte” (Acuarela) was rated as one of the best albums of the century by ROCKDELUX, the main Spanish indie magazine, and was awarded by the “Spanish Independent Label Union”. ZA!’s third album MEGAFLOW will be released by DISCORPORATE RECORDS, Acuarela and Gandula.

MEGAFLOW, that is subnormal energy on two vinyls with amazing artwork (each song has a miniature landscape as a map). A whirlwind of colors. Virtuosic euphoria. Living intuition. Musical explosion. Coltrane, Africa, Asia, Fugazi, Tortoise, Ruins, Stravinsky, Battles… or in this weird package just ZA!

One of the most advanced noise creators and simultaneously one of the neatest outfits there are. Hardly anyone in that genre has accomplished a tighter match of two antagonisms – chaos and structure.

Don Vito’s IV is a brute piece of greatness.

The essence after 10 furious and fast songs…there is a deep end. A deeper end than it seems at first, second, fifth listening. What we initially think of as noise with a head nodding effect has a lot more structure and thought-through-ness than it looks like on the surface.

DEAD WESTERN is TROY MIGHTY, who demands to live.
DEAD WESTERN reaches out from the Psych-Folk happening of the US Westcoast.

“SUCKLE AT THE SUPPLE TEATS OF TIME” reaches out with the familiarity of the dark and saddened guitar-based Folk, it surprises with the momentum of life, the comprehension of the beauty in life, confusion and self – it reaches straight to the heart.

Troy’s voice is like sound from the earth, a whole warm ground. The second full-length album of the wandering troubadour from Sacramento “SUCKLE AT THE SUPPLE TEATS OF TIME” opens already with enchanting sadness but the sorrowfulness of the sensitive mind. A mind that wants to suck in the world but struggles to find its place in it. Rising up on “Not Really Here At All”, a song of love, a children choir declaring “We will fill the air content in calm and grace, as we sing to those who complicate: Please keep your weapons out of space! Please throw your weapons in the garbage can!”.
Later on “A Father Ain’t A Man”, it cuts your heart right in two, baring the struggle of paternity and a father disconnected from his child. The frankness of these songs is loose and free, expresses fear, joy and even directed critique. What makes these songs so universal is the reappearing thought they are holding, of other places, people and time. A longing for and awareness of things far from sight.

The carrying instrument in DEAD WESTERN is the acoustic guitar, one that is patient with the mind singing to it. The gently picked guitar weaves a subtle net, in which playful sounds like violin (played by Extra Life’s Caley Monahon-Ward), bass (Jesse Phillips), percussion (Kevin Corcoran), chord organ, kazoo and a singing saw appear here and there and exist comfortably. These and other instruments played by Troy build a family and its members tell each song’s story in their own way, their own sound.

DEAD WESTERN is a subtle child, but one with the backbone of an old man. It is intuition, feel and nature that sings the songs of Troy. Dark and creepy, but longing for a brighter world, for love and space. Peace and understanding. What’s so funny about?

“SUCKLE AT THE SUPPLE TEATS OF TIME” is the soundtrack to your fever dreams. Songs that sound like they have been here for hundred
years, music you can hide within and brave the world outside.

The ten songs on “SUCKLE AT THE SUPPLE TEATS OF TIME” are for those who have an ear and a heart that swings with dissonance. And you might need to climb in a wooden horse to get to the heart of this DEAD WESTERN…

GET READY FOR THE SONS OF ZARBOTH !!!!

Rising from the [un]sophisticated underground of Paris, Zarboth began after a chance meeting between Etienne Gaillochet [We Insist !] and Phil Reptil [La Theory du Reptil] in 2007 whilst on a [surely...?] fascinating educational outing. After forming an instant bond of friendship, the two realised they had known of each others musical projects for years but had never met.
They immediately decided to get together for a jam, and blindly stumbled together into a project full of twisted rhythms, beautiful yelling and playful staccati, giving birth to a union of experimental rock, jazz & metal brimming with old-school punk attitude.

Phil Reptil had a longterm project called “La Theory du Reptil” releasing an album in 1998 on Pee Wee Records. Also writing and performing in various projects throughout the past 15 years from electronic music to experimental, pop, rock or world music, Phil is often requested by other bands and artists for his laptop skills creating experimental sounds and samples. However, his heavy-ass bass-crunching earth-shattering sound for Zarboth is created by playing a 7-sting baritone guitar through a bass amp for a tone that makes bass players lose sleep at the thought of becoming obsolete.

Etienne Gaillochet has been the drummer/vocalist & driving force of Paris’ own WE INSIST ! for the past 13 years. With a particular fascination towards odd time-signatures and dischordant melodies ranging in style from metal or jazz to classical, Etienne brings his trademark solid, yet experimental, percussion skills to Zarboth. Having released 4 albums so far with We Insist !, he has toured extensively throughout Europe and will continue to do so throughout 2009 including Exile On Mainstream’s own “BLISSTRAIN” tour with OSTINATO, BULBUL, BEEHOOVER and THE ANTIKAROSHI in March.

Signed to Exile on Mainstream/Southern Records, We Insist ! will release their new album in May 2009. The self-titled debut album from Zarboth sees Dresden’s DISCORPORATE RECORDS and EXILE ON MAINSTREAM RECORDS join forces in East Germany for the release with distribution through Soulfood. East Germany has become a very special place for Zarboth, as well as any band that has ever been involved with these labels, and has been proudly adopted as honorary citizens and a second home in their hearts. Nevertheless, Zarboth is first and foremost a French band, and the album will see a release in France through the excellent independent label HEAD RECORDS (Goodbye Diana, Pneu, Superbeatnik).

ZARBOTH: It’s a free-noise-metal-jazz mix of whatever; it’s whenever; it’s cities, fields, rain, shoes, sun, water, laughter, east, yeast, night, love, Paris, German beer, cigarettes from anywhere; everywhere; friends, and from Pantera to Bill Frisell then beyond…
Yes, dear people! Another crazy duo, and a HELLA lot of fun!

Jonathan Pfeffer, the mastermind behind this sadistic avant-pop-group from Philadelphia, likes thinking that his music “treads a fine line between economic innovation and commercial suicide”.

“So Embarrassing” is the product of Pfeffer’s relentless attention to detail. Intricate structures develop from chaotic forms. Melodies burst from hidden nooks and crannies. Dense walls of sound stretch, bend, fall apart and come back together, only to fall apart again. The whole affair is executed with pinpoint precision by the CAPILLARY ACTION live band and a 9-piece-orchestra of strings, horns and classical percussion.

“So Embarassing” crosses neurotic mathrock with progressive jazz and new music, the furor of an electric guitar with the melodic expressivity of a Fender Rhodes.

CAPILLARY ACTION spent three years crafting “So Embarrassing” and this monster of an album represents having the courage to walk straight into an uncomfortable situation and risk everything to say what needs to be said. By not being afraid to express the taboo, this music pushes listeners to confront their own struggles with a unique approach: A philosophy of embarrassment as a means of personal growth.

We are deeply shocked…

Mathias Jähnig (The Season Standard) and Johannes Döpping (Tarentatec, Osis Krull, Kayo Dot) met first in early 2008 and pretty soon they joined forces. After 5 days in the “boomy room” they crafted 5 amazing songs.

The first Schnaak-EP had to be recorded live in front of an audience, so they decided to record two Berlin-shows on tape. So they did… and “women on ships are bad luck” is the result.

Schnaak play unique Experimental Noiserock – with a weird blend of funny Jazz-licks, strange African rhythms and that Hardcore-tightness… two-piece-madness somewhere between Hella, Captain Beefheart, Battles and Sun Ra.

4 young Berliners – without child prodigy background, without jazz education, without fashion understanding, without stylists, without industry in the nape – casually outshining every progressive band, fooling every rock group, lapping every electro-guru unintentionally and besides having the ability to entertain entire Las Vegas…

“Squeeze Me Ahead Of Line” pulsates and runs perpetually in tremendous dynamics. Every instrument is on an internal hunt. Every component leaves tracks. Every element is in bright excitement. The most idiosyncratic way to blow up a ballroom.

The schizophrenic stepsisters Mathcore and Freejazz progressively rape contemporary Funk, coincidentally grooving by.

Better: Gathering of the coolest shitheads in strongrock-circus!

Finally the two brothers in arms met to vividly and plainly eternalize each other’s essence on a record. After all they share a drummer (third worst in the world, by the way), a cholerical label boss and a mutual philosophy. Finally emerging: a manifest of love and insufficiency, bristeling with creativity and spirit. A Split-CD of a special kind.

A baby of two allied, but extrem diverse bands and their friends; hatched with true love and packed (78 min) with a legion of songs and snapshots.

VISIONS

How do they do this? Why are they so good? Where do they take this penetrating power from?
Tarentatec have retained the unpredictability in the songwriting of their debut. Deke to the right and pass to the left, this is one more of their excellent qualities. Only the widescreen-rock has gone back a little, now loud/silent dominates mainly. There comes an increased application of electronic elements which are twined, however, so subtle that one hardly notes them. Unbeatable!”

The “Zonnhaider” is a mirror for the protagonists, which makes up different stories, dreams, emotions and realities and embraces them. It collects, develops and expresses. A spirit which mediates between oblivion and presence, dreams and their counter dreams, love and hatred and which carries real-to-be desired child stories in itself and unites them with adult cruelty. Through this figure The Zonnhaider’s Club (Martin Ketelhut and Christopher Schön) try to narrate, to sing and to move.

Musically the songs walk in slow motion through those many places of “The Forthcoming Spring”. In the wide tension curves the dreamy and warm sounds are wrecked only seldom by eruptions and if then those soon collapse and vanish. An army crowd of instruments braid themselves, delightful and melancholic tunes come out, disappear again – and two voices are confronted: One bright and clear, the other urgently deep. They escort the listener through the fog.

The chapter “The Forthcoming Spring” broaches the issue of a floating condition between the Here and Now and a time or a place which one longs for in vain.
